“Funkydory” is the debut album from former S Clubber Rachel Stevens. Shortly after the split from the band Rachel signed a 2.3 Million Dollar contract with former manager Simon Fuller and label Polydor, for 4-albums. The album was put together in a short period of time. The band split in June and Rachel took a month off, and then went into the studio. She recorded tracks penned by Cathy Dennis. Songs included on the original release were “Sweet Dreams My L.A. Ex”, “Funky Dory”, and the potential third single “Breathe In, Breathe Out”.
The third single was intended to be “Breathe In, Breathe Out” but was cast aside to “Some Girls”. Some Girls was the track intended to save Rachel’s seemingly failing career. The song penned by Richard X did infact save Rachel’s career, and launched the rerelease of the album. It was repackaged to include ‘Some Girls’ and a new mix of ‘Breathe In, Breathe Out’, and a cover of the classic “More More More”.
