S Club 7

After the demise of the Spice Girls, Simon Fuller manager and creator of 19 Entertainment had no real acts on his label and needed someone new. He conquered up the thought of a pop band, consisting of 7 people. The name S Club 7 can be broken down to the following. S is the 19th letter of the alphabet, the dictionary definition of “Club” is a group of people, and …. 7 odvisouly. So, 19 Group’s (of) 7 can basically be what the name means, although it was never officially confirmed.

The band’s idea started in late 1998, Now to find members. Auditions were held and members were chosen. Rachel however, was spotted in a market along side her brother and sent to the audition process. The members were Jo, Hannah, Tina, Bradley, Paul, Jon and of course Rachel <3. They began recording their debut album in various parts of Europe including Norway, and England. Following the recording of their album, they recorded their debut television series S Club 7 in Miami (or simply Miami 7). The show became an over night sensation, and became the years highest rated television series. Their debut album spawned the hit singles “Bring it All Back” (Which was the opening track for their television series), “S Club Party”, “You’re My Number One”, and “Two In A Million”.

In 2000 the band went stateside not only to followup their album, but to release their music and television series, Though the TV show did well, their music barely cracked the charts. The only singles released in America were “Bring it All Back” and “Two In A Million” (You’re My Number One was not released as a double a-side). In 2000 S Club released “7″ their debut album which featured the hits “Reach” and “Natural”, Also their second television series “S Club 7 in L.A.” (or simply L.A. 7) was released not only in the UK but also the US. The album was also released in America, but “Natural” was released as the lead single. S Club were set to release the third single “Bring The House Down”, but were chosen to record the BBC Children in Need single for 2000 and wanted a power ballad to be released, so recorded the Cathy Dennis penned track “Never Had A Dream Come True”. This launched the rerelease of their album in the UK. On the other side of the pond, “Never Had a Dream Come True” gained interest and charted Number 11 in the Billboard Hot 100. This was S Club’s only apperance in the top 20 – but also got the rerelease of the album, and the seven began a promotional tour in America in 2001.

Also in 2001, S Club 7 released their third album entitled “Sunshine”, and also released their third television series entitled Hollywood 7 (or “S Club 7 in Hollywood”). The lead single “Don’t Stop Movin’” became their second platinum selling single, and hit the number one position twice. Following the release of “Dont Stop Movin’” S Club released their second BBC Children In Need single “Have You Ever”, which also hit number 1 in the charts. For the release of the third single for the album, S Club apparently wanted to release the Rachel-fronted track “Show Me Your Colours”, S Club fought for the release of this song, but Simon Fuller simply stated S Club knew nothing about the music industry, “You” was released in it’s place, and was also the breaking point for the band. Although the release of “Show Me Your Colors” was never officially confirmed, It was reported. After “You” was released and charted number 2 the Tina-fronted track “Stronger” was promoed and apparently set for release when news broke band-member Paul wanted out of the band. The release of “Stronger” was cancelled. On June 2, 2002 S Club 7 made their last official preformance at the Queens Jubilee, preforming “Don’t Stop Movin’”, but also a cover of “Move It”, along side the original artist.

2002 also saw the release, and recording of S Club’s (note that the “7″ was dropped after Paul officially left the band) fourth album “Seeing Double”, but also the release of their fourth, and final television series “Viva S Club” (or in America simply “S Club”). The first four episodes featured former band member Paul, until he finally left in the fourth episode. S Club released the album’s lead single “Alive”, which became the lowest chart single from the group coming in at number 5. In December of 2002 S Club release a compilation album in America featuring the best of their last two albums “Sunshine” and “Seeing Double” naming it simply “Don’t Stop Movin’”. The band launched the lead single of the same name, featuring all seven members of the band in the single-cover and music video but still naming the band “S Club” (Although Paul was no longer in the band). The single, and album failed to gain much interest. The failure of the album did not stop the release of the film “Seeing Double”, The movie was released as a DVD with limited release and minimal magazine promotion.

In 2003, S Club released their big-screen debut, not at all connected to their television series in any way – The movie, much like the album was titled “Seeing Double”, and followed the remaining six members of the band after they believe they’ve been replaced, but “pop bots”, or simply clones. On the bands third concert along side S Club Juniors, which at this point were on the verge of releasing their second album entitled “Sundown”. In April, after the movies premiere rumors ran rapid of the bands demise. On tour, S Club announced they would disband in June after the release of a greatest hits album entitled “BeSt – The Greatest Hits of S Club 7″. The albums lead single “Say Goodbye” accompanied with “Love Ain’t Gonna Wait For You” (From the ‘Seeing Double’ album) was released as a double a-side and just barely topped the charts. After they broke up, the members went their separate ways.
