As we all know Rachel went to Florida last month as apart of Caudewell Children’s “Destination Dreams”. Rachel has made girls dream come true. I love hearing these types of stories!
Little Sadie Cavagan’s dreams came true as she went on a once in a lifetime holiday to Disney World Florida. The Tyneside youngster, who has a rare brain condition, flew across the Atlantic for her ideal trip with her family – and surprise guest Rachel Stevens. Sadie, eight, of Walker in Newcastle, was joined by the S Club 7 star in her capacity as ambassador for the annual Destination Dreams holiday organised by Caudwell Children, a charity providing support to disabled children and their families. But the singer’s attendance came as a complete surprise to Sadie, sister Charlie, five, and parents Jill and Steven.
Jill said: “I couldn’t believe it when she was introduced to the group. “As I understand it she has been supporting the charity for a number of years but wanted to get even more involved. “She explained to me that she wanted to help promote the holiday in order to raise the funds necessary for the trip to take place again in 2015. “She was so friendly, approachable and down to earth. She took a great deal of time to find out about Sadie’s condition and to chat with her, it was brilliant. “As if the holiday wasn’t special enough, this was the icing on the cake.”
Sadie suffers from hypomyelination and atrophy of the basal ganglia, a rare condition affecting her brain and development. The family had always dreamt of taking Sadie and Charlie to Disney World, but they didn’t have the confidence to make the journey without the medical support that they believed was necessary – until Caudwell Children stepped in. “The holiday has allowed us to create lasting memories that we shall treasure for a lifetime,” added Jill. “We’ve made some fantastic friends and I’m sure Rachel’s involvement will inspire others to fundraise for this invaluable trip.“I want other families, just like ours, to benefit from this dream holiday.”
The charity is now appealing for donations to allow them to take more children and young people on their Destination Dreams respite holiday this year. Visit www.caudwellchildren.com for more information and to see if you can help.
