Rachel Talks Wateraid in the Daily Mail

Rachel sat down with The Daily Mail to talk about her recent trip to help Wateraid!

It was only a couple of weeks ago that MailOnline was asking where Rachel Stevens had been hiding.
But the petite pop star has secretly been working hard behind the showbiz scenes. Rachel, mother to daughter Amelie, 2, has signed up to be the new face of Next Petites, and as she tells MailOnline, has just returned from an emotional trip to Ethiopia with WaterAid.

The 34-year-old, who is rumoured to be returning to Strictly Come Dancing for the Christmas special, said: ‘It was so funny when I saw the photograph of me on the site at Mariella Frostrups Great Initiative launch because I haven’t been hiding at all.

‘Being a mum to Amelie is a big job in itself and I love it so much. I wanted to be very hands on and be with her as much as possible and I’m so glad I’ve done that. ‘But now she’s just turned two and at nursery, I’m back to work. I’ve been having lots of meetings and photoshoots for my Next clothing range, which is so exciting. ‘And recently WaterAid asked me to be an ambassador and invited me out to Ethiopia to see some of the projects they have been working on.
‘Mariella’s Great Initiative event was all about celebrating women who are fighting for equal rights.’

Rachel’s visit to the Ethiopia was her first undertaking as an ambassador for WaterAid, an international charity that aims to transform lives by improving access to water, hygiene and sanitation. She said: ‘Whilst I was visiting a slum just outside the capital Addis Ababa I met a group of incredibly inspiring women who were fighting for equal rights.
‘I was blown away by what these women were achieving in such harsh circumstances.

‘Walking around the slums you could see how poor the area was. There was smelly open sewers at the side of the road and the people living there had no choice but to drink dirty water which can cause diahorrea – the second biggest killer in Ethiopia causing more deaths than AIDS, Malaria and Measles put together.
