Rachel Stevens: “I get so much inspiration from women everyday”

In a recent interview Rachel speak with HER in regards to her fashion influences.

When S Club 7 burst onto the scene in 1999, they brought us hit after hit, as well as some iconic fashion moments. One alumni who will admit to the odd fashion faux pas during the early 2000s is Rachel Stevens, but since then, she’s been on quite the sartorial journey. In fact, she credits those early pop days as being a pivotal moment in finding her own style.

“I’ve always loved fashion since I was little,” Rachel tells Her. “My grandma had this fashion boutique that I used to go and spend loads of time in, and I was just around it all the time. And then, obviously, my career took me into a world where it was all about fashion, and, being in a pop band in the 2000s, I made a lot of fashion faux pas.”

The S Club 7 members went their separate ways in 2003, and Rachel kickstarted her own super successful solo career (who could forget the absolute banger that is Sweet Dreams my LA Ex?). During this time, she learned more and more about fashion, and how to dress for her frame. After all, at five foot, she is quite petite.

She says: “Throughout my career, I’ve got to work with some amazing stylists and designers, and I’ve been to a million fittings so I’ve learnt what works on my body shape, and because I’m petite, I’m constantly having to shorten everything.

“I believe we can wear anything, it’s just about proportions and how it fits on your body.”

In terms of influence, Rachel gets ideas from the women in her life.

“I get so much inspiration from women everyday,” she says. “There are a lot of influencers who I follow who I admire, but it could also be a woman on the street. I’m that person who will go up to someone and go, ‘Oh my God, where is that dress from?’ I just love style, I love fashion, I love clothes.”

Over the past few years, Rachel has channeled her passion professionally, and her latest edit with Oasis is a testament to that.

Defining it stylistically, Rachel says the collection is “feminine, but with an edge to it”.

“It’s a real mix of gorgeous statement dresses, it’s all about the details and the shapes. I love a big drama sleeve, the scalloped edges, the details in the stitching. It’s just really wearable, comfortable, stylish, but also with an edge to it.”

Rachel Stevens discusses Bikini’s, motherhood, and S Club ahead of her new role as National Lottery ambassador

Rachel Stevens has sat down with The Sun and discussed things around her posing for another bikini shoot, how she doesn’t actively talk to her S Club bandmates, and being a mother and accepting her new role as the National Lottery ambassador.

Aa the height of her fame Rachel Stevens regularly appeared on magazine covers and was named the sexiest woman of all time.

Now, nearly 20 years on, the former S Club 7 singer is a 44-year-old married mother of two — and in an exclusive interview she says she would still be happy to pose in a bikini again.

Rachel, who married actor Alex Bourne in 2009 and is mum to their kids Amelie, 11, and Minnie, eight, also discussed her mental health struggles, balancing her career with motherhood and the drive to help disadvantaged kids get into acting as part of her new role as a National Lottery ambassador.

She told The Sun on Sunday: “Yes I’d do another bikini shoot, why not?

“I loved doing those shoots because it was an opportunity to do something where I could express myself in a different way to Top Of The Pops or Smash Hits and all those other magazines the band did.

“I love photoshoots and find them really creative. I love getting involved with how we are going to make the pictures look.

“So if there is an opportunity to do all that then yes, I could definitely see myself doing shoots like that.

“But it will be something different these days because mags like FHM were so of- the-moment.

“I don’t think it will ever be like that again.”

Rachel had previously pledged to hang one her favourite magazine covers on the wall of the family home in North London.

Asked if she had seen the promise through, she said: “I haven’t got round to it yet, but I will.

“I promise you here and now I will put one up on my wall.

“I am very open with the kids about everything, so it won’t be awkward.”

Rachel also hinted that she would love to be back on stage with her bandmates — Tina Barrett, Paul Cattermole, Jon Lee, Bradley McIntosh, Jo O’Meara and Hannah Spearritt.

The group formed in 1998 and went on to have four No1 singles and sell ten million albums worldwide.

They even had their own TV show, Miami 7, before they disbanded in 2003 and briefly reunited in 2014.

Rachel said: “Our last reunion was amazing. Seeing everyone enjoying our music and us getting to perform it again was great.

“But who knows? Getting seven people together is hard. I haven’t spoken to them, to be honest, and I need to do that.”

For now, the star is concentrating on her new ambassador role for the National Lottery Platinum Jubilee Fund, which is providing more than £22million to communities across the UK to commemorate the Queen’s 70-year reign.

Funding will be awarded to community, arts, sports and environmental initiatives, with hundreds of grants being made to organisations the length and breadth of the country.

This week Rachel visited The SPID Theatre Company in West London’s Kensal House Estate, which received £46,912 for a refurbishment.

The theatre is working with children and adults — including those affected by the Grenfell Tower fire five years ago — who might otherwise never get to perform on stage.

Rachel said: “This is so important. There is so much untapped talent out there.

“To have a space like this, where people can come and play and be creative, is absolutely essential — especially for children.”

Rachel added that her own children are both fans of her songs and her oldest daughter wants to follow her into showbiz.

She said: “I remember once dropping them off at nursery and Don’t Stop Moving came on the radio. Amelie and Minnie were so proud and saying, ‘Wind down the windows so everyone can hear’. They have moments of, ‘Wow, that was so amazing’.

“But I am just ‘Mum’ and they want me to be at their beck and call all the time and to not go to work.

“And entertainment is so different now — the girls just want to watch TikTok.”

Rachel also admits that being in the public eye has its downfalls.

She said: “I have never regretted becoming famous. It’s brought me so much and I’m so grateful for it. But there was a lot of learning to do after leaving S Club 7.

“The band was a whirlwind — everything was done for us in terms of our scheduling and it was all very protected. I was only 19 years old and it was a time in my life where, if I wasn’t in a band like that, I’d have been finding my own way and doing my own diary.

“But we were always on location or in a hotel, and it was an incredible experience — but you miss a lot of life lessons along the way.

“I think also that, emotionally and personally, a lot of feelings were pushed down because I had to have my showbusiness face on all the time.

“More than any other band really, we had our TV show and our movies and albums and radio tours. It was intense.”

Asked if she had mental health struggles when she was younger, she said: “Yes, definitely.

“I have always been someone that overthinks things — a deep thinker, a worrier.

“Growing up, I used to internalize everything and didn’t really talk about anything, and I just got used to doing that.

“I grew up in a family that was very close and warm but we didn’t really talk about our feelings.

“I was very sensitive and would soak up and internalize everything that was going on around me, but I didn’t have an outlet for it.

“Once I joined the band, I did that even more. So when I left S Club 7 I had to relearn how to be open with people. I still find interviews really hard, to be honest.

“Talking about my personal feelings is something I never learnt to do so it feels quite exposing.”

Rachel admits that being voted the sexiest woman of all time by FHM in 2014 could have been a curse as well as a blessing.

She said: “A lot of emphasis has been put on looks throughout my career and it’s so important not to do that.

“I guess when you’re in the public eye there is a pressure in general on how we look. You do see a lot of images of yourself and it creates pressure to be a certain way and look a certain way.

“And some days you feel confident in how you look and some days you don’t.

“I try to look after myself as much as possible.

“I get outside and walk and do yoga. I don’t go to the gym.

“For me the best exercise is dancing in my kitchen or on a good night out.

“I try to eat well but I’m always busy juggling a million things, so it can be hard.

“Some days I’m like, ‘Yes, I’ve got this’. Others, I don’t drink a glass of water until eight o’clock at night.

“I like a drink — a glass of wine or a lychee martini — but a couple and I’m gone. I’m the biggest lightweight.”

Rachel Stevens on “Things I Told My Daughter” Podcast with Mother, Linda

Back in January Rachel appeared on the Fabulous Magazine podcast ‘Things I Told My Daughter’ with her mother Linda.

Hosted by Peta Todd, they discuss everything from her former popstar years, to navigating life as a mother, and being sexualized and placed in a bubble and how her experience in the industry inspires her to teach her daughters about the importance of beauty inside and out.

Rachel Stevens’ Daughter Amelie Bourne Lands West-End Gig

Rachel Stevens didn’t want to be “a pushy show mum” but is “bursting with pride” that her eldest daughter, Amelie, has landed a job on the West End.

It was revealed at the weekend how the 43 year old’s daughter Amelie, 11, has landed the role as Young Eponine in Les Misérables at London’s Sondheim Theatre.

A source has told OK! online how former S Club 7 star Rachel wanted to “guide and protect her” as she landed her first professional job after seeing the pitfalls of the industry.

They said: “Rachel has been protective of her children because she’s seen what it’s like to be a young star and all that comes with it from her time in S Club.

“She knows the pitfalls of fame and has seen what can happen to young stars – even with members of the band after it ended.

“But this is all that her daughter wants to do, she’s got the performing gene from her mum.”

The source added: “Rachel didn’t want to be a pushy show mum but she’s been able to guide her and protect her. She is bursting with pride.”

Rachel, who competed in this year’s Dancing On Ice, spoke about her daughter’s surprising new job to MailOnline.

She said: “I’m always singing, always, and so are my kids. We’re in a very musical house and my daughter is definitely following in my footsteps.

“I’d help her in terms of being there for advice and to guide her for sure, but it’s a very different world now, music is like a whole different industry to when I was in it.

“She’s actually in a show at the moment in the West End so she’s already starting her journey and I’m so proud of her. She’s loving it so much and she’s found her career.”

Discussing how she feels watching her daughter on stage, Rachel added: “I’m usually bawling pretty much, just so proud of her just bursting with pride really.

“The first time I went to see her, my heart was pounding,” she continued, adding it is “so emotional and so special.”

Rachel Stevens reveals her daughters put ‘serious pressure’ on her for ‘Dancing on Ice’ participation

Rachel Stevens has revealed that her two children have put “serious pressure” on her to do well on Dancing on Ice.

The former S Club 7 star has been forced to pull out of Sunday’s live show due to a wrist injury she sustained after falling on the ice back in December.

Speaking at a recent press event, Rachel told HELLO! and other journalists that her two daughters, Amelie, 11, and Minnie, 7, are “so excited” about her having joined the skating show.

When asked if her children were a big part of her decision to sign up for the ITV show, she said: “Definitely. This is the first time, because my oldest is 11 and Minnie is seven, so it’s the first time that I’ve done anything that they can really come to and be a part of. They watched on Sunday night and they are so excited now.

“Now that it’s really tangible and they can see it and they’re getting to know everyone and getting their favourites, but they were putting serious pressure on me. I’m like, ‘Oh my God, tough crowd,'” she joked.

At the same press event, the singer also revealed that sustaining the injury has been both “scary” and “frustrating”. She said: “It’s definitely been scary. I mean, this happened at the beginning of December. So once I knew what had happened, I was just so grateful that I knew I could stay in the show and still be a part of it. But it’s definitely been a process and I’ve had my wobbles for sure.”

She continued: “It’s been frustrating and scary, but at the same time, Brendan [Hatfield] has been so amazing and the team around me have been so supportive and I’ve had amazing medical advice and support.

“We’ve just done everything we can off the ice, like working on core strength and stamina and balance and all of those things. Just making the best of what we’ve got and working so hard so fingers crossed when I get back on I can just give it my everything and go for it,” she added.

Ben Foden titles Rachel Stevens to be “Sexiest Woman Alive”, apologizes.

Ben Foden has come under fire for a comment he made about his Dancing on Ice co-star Rachel Stevens being the “sexiest woman in the world” just days after his wife, Jackie, said she was not worried about him cheating on her.

At a press conference, Rachel was asked what she has over other contestants that could help her win the show.

“It’s such a fun, amazing show. I just want to go in and do the best I can,” she said. “Ultimately you have to bring yourself and have fun.

“You’re putting on a show. That’s what is so special. We’re all bringing something different and our own unique thing.”

Ben responded: “That – and you’re the sexiest woman in the world, Rachel.”

Taking to Instagram, the 36-year-old clarified what he really meant by the comment.

“Just want to address something the red tops have been printing today about me referring to Rachel as the sexiest woman in the world,” he said.

“We were in an interview, and someone asked Rachel, ‘how do you carry around the weight of being the sexiest woman in the world?’

“And then later on, another reporter asked Rachel, ‘what do you have over other competitors in the competition?’ Obviously Rachel was very respectful and modest and I threw in at the end, ‘oh don’t forget you’re the sexiest woman in the world.’”

“Obviously they’ve taken that and written a headline, and made it something it’s absolutely not…”

“Sorry Rach – my foot in my mouth as usual. Obviously Jackie is my sexiest woman in the world, she gets my vote every time.”

The rugby player went on to thank fans for sending messages of support.

He also issued a message to those leaving negative comments about his relationship, saying: “If it makes you feel better and you feel better about yourself for doing it then I’m all for it, I can take it, I’m a big boy, but please leave my friends and my family alone.”

Ben was previously married to The Saturdays’ singer Una Healy, whom he was unfaithful to. He married his new wife Jackie on the day their divorce was finalized, after dating her for just two weeks.

Rachel Stevens Injured during ‘Dancing on Ice’ Practice

Unfortunately, Rachel has been forced to withdraw from this week’s Dancing on Ice episode due to a wrist fracture sustained during practice!

The news was announced via Twitter by the Dancing on Ice Twitter page

While Rachel is recovering, there is hope she will be able to return the following week on 30 January.

UPDATE: Rachel has spoken regarding her injury stating: “I’ve got a meeting with the consultant this week so fingers crossed as soon as I get the all clear I can go back on the ice. It is so frustrating but you know what, these things happen and it’s the risk you take.”

She added: “I fractured my wrist at the beginning of December. I didn’t realise I had done it at the time. Healing time for a fractured wrist is 6 weeks really so I’ve just been following the advice of the medics and doing all the advice they’ve told me to do to keep it strong.”

UPDATE #2: Rachel has released a more detailed statement: “I mean, this happened at the beginning of December,” she explained. “So, once I knew what had happened, I was just so grateful that I knew I could stay in the show and still be a part of it. But it’s definitely been a process, and I’ve had my wobbles for sure. Because, you know, when I take on something, I want to give it my everything and really go for it, and I really care about doing the best I can.

“So yeah, it’s been frustrating and scary, but at the same time, Brendan has been so amazing and the team around me have been so supportive and I’ve had amazing advice, medical advice and support. And we’ve just done everything we can off ice… to do everything we can, like working on core strength, and stamina and balance and all of those things. Just making the best of what we’ve got and working so hard that, fingers crossed, when I get back on I can just give it my everything and go for it.”

She went on: “I actually wasn’t with [partner Brendyn Hatfield] at the time, I was with my coach. This was a couple of weeks before Christmas. And yeah, I mean, I fell quite a few times, obviously as you do, though trying to push yourself and was trying to push myself out of my comfort zone and yeah, I just fell and it hurt.

“Obviously, I didn’t know what I’d done, but after that I had an incredible support, went and got an x-ray done and I’ve had amazing medical advice from the team. This is healing really, really well. I’m just so grateful to still be able to be in it to be a part of it and we’re working super, super hard off ice so that, fingers crossed, I can get on really, really soon. I just can’t wait. I cannot wait to get back on.”

Rachel Stevens Dishes on her “Dancing on Ice” Training

Earlier this week Rachel Stevens attended Pride of Britain awards sporting a piece from her new collection with Oasis.

On the red carpet Rachel spoke with OK Magazine regarding her training for her upcoming stint on ITV’s “Dancing On Ice” set to premiere in January.

Rachel Stevens has proudly revealed she hasn’t yet fallen over during the gruelling training process for Dancing On Ice, which she will star on next January.

The 43 year old will star on the next series of the hit ITV skating show alongside fellow famous faces Liberty Poole, Sally Dynevor and Ben Foden.

Former S Club 7 star Rachel attended Daily Mirror’s Pride of Britain awards at the weekend, speaking exclusively to OK! on the red carpet.

Discussing training for the show, Rachel said: “It’s so exciting but it’s so hard. I’ve not fallen over yet, I’m not sure if that’s a good thing or not!

“I’ve not met the rest of the cast yet, I’ve met Bez and I’ve met Stef [Reid] but apart from that, nobody. We’ll all be getting together soon so I’m really looking forward to that.”

She continued: “I’m looking forward to so much [about the experience], just getting to be able to skate so I can chase the kids this Christmas.

Last month, Rachel spoke out against claims she has an “advantage” on the show, slamming them as “unfair”.

Speaking to The Sun, she said: “It’s unfair. They said the same thing when I did Strictly.

“I’m not a trained dancer so going into that was totally out of my comfort zone and a different way of performing.

“Now add the ice element to it and it’s a whole new ball game.”
